Jeff Kim, DO
Jeff Kim, DO, a sports medicine physician at Saint Vincent Sports Medicine, earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed both a family medicine residency and a sports medicine fellowship at Saint Vincent.
Dr. Kim has additional training and certification for osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), Body Map assessment and joint injections, including but not limited to the shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist and hip. He also specializes in concussion treatment and education, OMT for both athletes and non-athletes experiencing neck, back, pelvis and hip pain, and gait assessment for runners and walkers.
Non-athletes can take advantage of Dr. Kim’s services as well. He provides non-surgical treatment for any musculoskeletal injuries and issues, and brings a conservative approach to treatment for arthritis, muscle imbalances and pain patterns that aren’t necessarily related to sports.
Dr. Kim is the team physician for the Erie Explosion, Penn State Behrend, Northwestern High School and Fairview High School. He provides medical coverage for many local athletic events, including the Erie Marathon and the Edinboro Triathlon. Dr. Kim is also involved with training new sports medicine physicians through the Saint Vincent Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship program.
His favorite sports are hockey & basketball, and he enjoys sailing, running, skiing and snowboarding. He is passionate about sports medicine because he likes helping athletes overcome the obstacles of an injury and return to peak performance in their desired sport.
Laura McIntosh, MD
Laura McIntosh, MD, a sports medicine physician at Saint Vincent Sports Medicine, earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her family practice residency at UPMC-Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., and her sports medicine fellowship at Saint Vincent.
Dr. McIntosh takes a functional approach to the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal problems, which involves prescribing exercises that imitate the motions required in the activity/sport of the patient. She is certified in Body Map assessment, and uses this knowledge to create individualized treatment plans through the Body Map program. She does utilize more traditional options like medications, bracing and joint injections when necessary. She also specializes in diagnosing and managing concussions. She enjoys working with athletes of all ages and specialties, but has a special interest in treating runners.
Non-athletes can benefit from Dr. McIntosh’s expertise in that her skills can also be applied to problems and issues that are not related to sports or exercise. People who don’t consider themselves athletes can actually experience the same types of musculoskeletal injuries as athletes, and Dr. McIntosh can provide the specialized care needed to help them avoid living with chronic pain – and maybe even help them discover the athlete within!
Dr. McIntosh is the team physician for Mercyhurst Preparatory School and assists in covering games for the Erie Seawolves and Erie Explosion. She provides medical coverage for several local athletic events including the Bay Swim, Highmark Quad Games, Erie Rugby Tournament and Presque Isle Triathlon.
Her favorite sports are basketball and crew, and she enjoys running, hiking and cross country skiing. For Dr. McIntosh, sports medicine is most rewarding when she can help an individual get back to their sport or simply get through their day pain-free. While the cause some injuries is clear and the treatment plan is standard, she also enjoys "playing detective" to get to the heart of the problem when injuries are more complicated.
