The da Vinci® Surgical System
Attend a free informational seminar to learn about the minimally invasive procedures available for women with the da vinci surgical system.
Women's Works
May 15, 5:30 p.m.
Saint Vincent Health Center
McGarvey Learning Center
232 West 25 Street, Erie
Saint Vincent obstetric and gynecological surgeon Lisa Semple, DO, and urological surgeon Lori Dulabon, DO, will talk about the minimally invasive treatment options available for the most common gynecologic conditions such as heavy bleeding, fibroids, endometriosis and pelvic prolapse. Saint Vincent is providing advanced laparoscopic and robot-assisted procedures that provide patients with smaller incisions, less risk of infection, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times. Refreshments will be served and every woman will get a free gift. To register call 814-866-4817.
Saint Vincent Health Center is proud to offer its surgeons and patients access to state of the art robotic technology, the da Vinci® Surgical System. The da Vinci Surgical System is able to use 3D visualization to translate the surgeon’s hand movements at the console into corresponding micro-movements of instruments positioned inside the patient. This intuitive interface and the size of the endowrist instruments allows operation through smaller incisions and provides surgeons with better visualization, precision and control than with open surgery. For patients, this means improved clinical outcomes due to:
- Reduced trauma to the body
- Reduced blood loss and need for transfusions
- Less post-operative pain and discomfort
- Less risk of infection
- Shorter hospital stay
- Faster recovery and return to normal daily activities
- Less scarring and improved cosmesis
At Saint Vincent, our surgeons are using the da vinci on a number of minimally invasive procedures including but not limited to:
Many of these procedures are done by a urologist or one of our general surgeons. For a list of our urologists, click here, for a list of our general surgeons, click here.

da Vinci® Sacrocolpopexy- Surgery for Uterine or Vaginal Vault Prolapse
Over 100,000 women suffer from uterine or vaginal vault prolapse each year in the United States. Falling of any pelvic floor organs occurs when the connective tissues or muscles in the body cavity are weak and can not hold the pelvis in its natural position. Sacrocolpopexy is a procedure to surgically correct vaginal vault prolapse by inserting a long term support system into the body. What used to require a 15-30 cm horizontal incision is now made possible with the da Vinci through small incisions in the lower abdomen.
da Vinci® Surgery for Urinary Obstruction (Pyeloplasty)
da Vinci® Surgery for Urinary Obstruction, also known as pyeloplasty, removes the blockage in the urinary system by reattaching the healthy part of the kidney to the healthy part of the ureter – the narrow tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder. The da Vinci Surgery is performed using small incision points and results in significantly less pain and shorter recovery times that with open surgery.
da Vinci® Prostatectomy
da Vinci Prostatectomy is one of the leading treatments in the Untied States for localized prostate cancer. It is a minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgical procedure that removes the cancerous prostate gland and related structures. It provides :
- Improved and Early Return of Sexual Function
- Improved and Early Return of Continence
- Improved Results Over Traditional Treatments
Using the da vinci’s minimally invasive surgical techniques provides a higher and longer survival rate than radiation or other treatments. Surgery also has a lower risk of long-term complications than radiation treatments.
da Vinci® nephrectomy
Surgery to remove a kidney or part of a kidney due to cancer is known as nephrectomy. There are various stages of cancer and three forms of surgical procedures depending on the stage of cancer and the condition of the patient. The da vinci is used for Partial Nephrectomy or Nephrectomy. da Vinci Surgery for kidney conditions uses the best techniques of open surgery and applies them to a robotic-assisted, minimally invasive approach. With da Vinci Surgery, doctors may perform what's called a nephrectomy or partial nephrectomy – removal of all or part of the kidney. The precision and dexterity of the da Vinci Surgical System's advanced instrumentation provides for a minimally invasive approach to treating kidney disorders and kidney cancer.
da Vinci® Lap Nissen fundoplications
da Vinci Nissen Fundoplication is a minimally invasive surgical treatment for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) widely known as acid reflux or chronic heartburn. While the current standard of care for GERD is drug therapy, persistent and/or severe cases may require surgery to relieve symptoms. da Vinci Nissen Fundoplication provides the surgeon with superb visualization of esophagogastric anatomy, enhanced dexterity for complex operations and increased control for precise stitches made through a minimal incision.
da Vinci® Colon Resection
Colon surgery is a common treatment for a range of benign conditions and cancers affecting either the colon – also called the large intestine or large bowel - or rectum. Large bowel resection (colon resection) is surgery to remove all or part of your large bowel (colon). The healthy parts of the digestive tract are then reconnected. With the da vinci, this procedure is done minimally invasively and the risk of infection is much lower than with an open surgery procedure.
