Heart Care at Westfield Memorial Hospital

In 2005, WMH added nuclear stress testing for the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. This testing can often eliminate the need for a patient to travel out of town for diagnosis. For patients who are diagnosed with heart disease, WMH’s affiliation with the Saint Vincent Heart Center in Erie, Pa., brings patients the benefit of the region’s finest cardiac expertise at a small community hospital.

And when a patient requires heart surgery, he or she remains within an uninterrupted continuum of care and is transferred to the region’s best cardiovascular and cardiacthoracic surgeons at the SVHC. Known for pioneering procedures, renowned physicians and nationally recognized outcomes, the SVHC offers the most comprehensive approach to cardiac care. With a cardiologist onsite 24/7 and a direct link to the WMH Emergency Room, coordinated care in life-threatening situations is making a positive difference for patients.

Testing, Monitoring and Rehabilitation

Aside from the latest addition of nuclear stress testing, WMH also provides Holter monitoring, general stress testing, cardiac event recording, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, carotid duplexes and arterial peripheral vascular testing. Patients in our area who have had cardiac surgery can do their rehabilitation close to home right here at WMH.

Cardiac Telemetry

WMH’s new cardiac telemetry system gives physicians in Chautauqua County instant Web access to the heart rate and rhythm of heart patients admitted to the hospital and enables the patient’s local physician as well as his or her Saint Vincent cardiologist or surgeon to obtain, very quickly, a great deal of information on changes in their patients’ vital signs. This allows physicians to make decisions and appropriately direct care from different locations on a continuous basis.

This system makes use of a combination of time-proven and cutting edge technology from Philips Medical Systems to help bring information more quickly to our medical staff, helping them to provide even better care to their patients.
