Women and Babies at Westfield Memorial Hospital

Obstetrics

The beginning of new life. Westfield Memorial Hospital in Westfield, N.Y., recognizes that each family wants to experience childbirth in their own. That’s why WMH offers expectant parents flexibility, accommodation and a comprehensive range of care designed to make birth a safe, healthy and beautiful experience. From prenatal education classes and an obstetric expertise to highly attentive postpartum and newborn care, WMH makes a baby’s arrival the amazing event it’s meant to be. Our focus on family welcomes and encourages your loved ones to share in your baby’s birth, while still reserving extra pampering for parents.

Advances in technology include new fetal monitors that provide moms increased mobility, enabling them to get on their feet and as far as 100 yards away from their rooms. When a C-section is necessary, new mothers are transferred to one of WMH’s fully equipped surgical suites for a seamless experience.

The Women’s Diagnostic Center of WMH

Because early detection is often a woman’s best defense against bone loss, breast cancer and other female cancers, WMH provides the area’s finest screening services and technology. Women’s diagnostic services include:

• Mammography
• Sonography
• Ultrasound
• Bone Densitometry

With a Woman’s Privacy and Comfort in Mind

Let’s face it. Mammograms are no fun. At The Women’s Diagnostic Center of WMH, women have their own mammography suite. They can change their clothes and have their mammogram performed in one private area for their comfort and convenience.

Access to CAD Technology for Precise Mammography Readings

In late 2004, WMH announced a program to connect Chautauqua County women to computer-aided detection (CAD) for mammography, a technology that helps radiologists detect breast cancer up to two years’ earlier than traditional mammography alone. Women receiving mammograms at the Women’s Diagnostic Center of WMH will have the added benefit of having their mammogram processed with the advanced technology of a CAD system in place at the Women’s Center at Saint Vincent in Erie, Pennsylvania. CAD serves as a second set of eyes for radiologists, often catching signs of cancer so small they are not visible to the naked eye. Computer-aided detection is a powerful and widely accepted tool which has received broad support from the American Cancer Society, the American College of Radiology, insurance companies and numerous patient advocacy groups.
